Nina Cuthrell is a pre-medicine student at Hope College. She has done a few semesters of psychology research at Hope College, but was intrigued by Dr. Chandler’s endometriosis research and decided to reach out to him. After being diagnosed with endometriosis at the age of 14, studying gynecological diseases became Nina's life project. She aims to become a pediatric gynecologist to help young women who are going through what she went through. When not in classes or research, you can find Nina playing with her dog, watching movies, or drinking coffee with friends.

Graduate student Jake Reske receives award for oral presentation at MSU RDSP Annual Research Day9/27/2019 Yesterday, September 26th, marked the annual MSU Reproductive and Developmental Sciences Program (RDSP) Research Day, which was held in Portland, MI. This yearly event showcases the latest research from MSU scientists focusing on reproductive and developmental biology. Chandler lab graduate student Jake Reske was selected to give an oral presentation on his research, titled "Genome-wide analysis of chromatin structure and function following ARID1A loss in endometriosis." Jake received the Best Oral Presentation Award for his talk at this meeting. Great work, Jake!
Our work has been chosen to be featured among a select group of ACS funded ovarian cancer studies. Mike's fellowship project, "Defining the role of endometrium in endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer," will contribute to our understanding of ovarian cancer progression. You can find the Ovarian Cancer Research Highlights here.
Dr. Chandler was interviewed by "The Scientist" about our recently published study. You can read that article titled "Two Genes Conspire in Endometriosis and Cancer to Help Cells Migrate" here.
The Chandler Lab is pleased to announce the publication of it's most recent paper. The paper titled "ARID1A and PI3-kinase pathway mutations in the endometrium drive epithelial transdifferentiation and collective invasion" was published in the journal Nature Communications on August 7, 2019. Click the link to access the paper.
To read more about the paper, including an interview with Dr. Chandler from MSU Today, click on this link. On Friday, May 31st, the Michigan Alliance for Reproductive Technologies and Sciences held its annual meeting in East Lansing, MI where researchers across Michigan presented their latest work on reproductive health science. Chandler lab graduate student Jake Reske was selected to give a competing oral presentation on his research and proceeded to win the Best Oral Presentation Award! Way to go, Jake!
The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) held a special symposium this year from May 9-12 at MSU East Lansing campus titled "Evolution and Core Processes in Gene Expression." Chandler lab graduate student Jake Reske received the Second Place Prize Award for his poster presentation titled "Genome-wide analysis of chromatin structure and function following ARID1A loss in the endometrial epithelium." Congratulations!
Mike will be speaking at the Karmanos Cancer Institute during the Ovarian Cancer Focus Group/Molecular Therapeutics Mini Symposium, a meeting to promote collaboration between MSU and KCI researchers. Mike will speak on the topic of his forthcoming publication
Subechhya Neupane, a graduate student in the Grand Valley State University Professional Science Masters in Cell and Molecular Biology (Biotechnology emphasis) has joined the Chandler Lab for a summer internship. Subechhya completed her undergrad degree in Microbiology in her home country of Nepal. She moved to US two years ago to complete her Master's degree. Subechhya was looking for an internship opportunity in Grand Rapids and that is when she found the Chandler lab. She will be working on a project to create a mouse model of gynecologic cancer using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing approach in vivo. In her free time, Subechhya loves traveling, indulging in nature and enjoying time by the beach at Lake Michigan.
Michigan State University medical student, Cristina Perez is joining the Chandler lab.
Asked to introduce herself, Cristina shared, "Hello Everyone! My name is Cristina Perez and I am a third year medical student at MSU CHM (Michigan State University College of Human Medicine).I grew up in Grand Haven, MI and have been in Michigan ever since. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Biopsychology, Cognition and Neuroscience. I have been involved in both clinical and lab research in the past. During this past summer I worked in a research lab at Stanford University, where my main focus was trying to identify and understand the role of Nemo-like Kinase in various cancers. Aside from school and research, I enjoy running and training for marathons, traveling, and keeping up with the latest food scene. I am excited to be a part of this lab and am looking forward to getting to know all of you!" Cristina will be doing double-duty: clinical rotations for medical school at Spectrum Health and research experiments in the lab when her schedule allows. We are pleased that Cristina has chosen to join us! |
